Air Cargo Tracking

Air cargo tracking can be done in different ways. The following are some of the methods you can use. You will need Internet access or a phone to perform the tracking.

All shipping companies have hubs in various parts of the world. It is here that the item is scanned and transferred. The usual process is from truck to airport to truck again until the final destination is reached.

At every hub that the item stops for, the item is recorded in the computer system. As the product is processed, the data is fed to the network and into the website. This allows you to track the package.

How the Process Works

Step 1

Before shipping, make sure to specify that you want the cargo to be tracked. This is probably done automatically by major companies, but it is best to be sure. Note: some small shipping companies may not offer this function at all.

Step 2

Find your tracking number. This could be in the receipt or other shipping documents. Usually this will be in the customs papers. The reason is the

cargo will go from the customs department of both countries where it came from and where it is headed.

Step 3

Log on to the Internet and go to the shipping company’s website and follow the instructions.

Tracking on FedEx

For FedEx, go to their website and enter the tracking number at the track>track shipments in the center of the page. You can do a

s many air cargo tracking checks as you want as long as you have the tracking number. You can also use FedEx’s “My Global Trade Data” application to get more up to date tracking.

Tracking UPS

You can track United Parcel Service (UPS) items by going to their website. The “Quantum View” app is ideal for people who ship a lot of packages and items. The program allows you to keep track of the items quickly.

USPS

The United States Postal Service (USPS) provides tracking only when you get the regular priority mail international (PMI) shipment and express mail service. You can also try their Global Express Mail service.

By Phone

If your shipping service does not have a website, you can call them by phone. If possible, ask that you are informed via mail whenever the package is in one of the hubs. If the service has other means of following the cargo, follow the instructions. It is important that you have the tracking number and other pertinent documents with you.

Other Information

There are other websites on the Internet that can help you track the shipment. The site will require the tracking number and in some cases, some flight information. For example, the flight number and the departure date may be needed as well. To avoid problems, you should have all the relevant documents with you.

Conducting air cargo tracking is no longer as difficult as it used to be. With more and more businesses going online, tracking your shipment becomes possible with just a few mouse clicks or a few phone calls.
